Community Service
Our church has many opportunities for people to use their gifts and abilities, from singing or playing an instrument with the worship team, to mentoring a child in an inner city after school program. Volunteers are needed on Sundays (ushers, greeters, in the nursery, or leading children's or adult groups), and throughout the week in community outreach programs in partnership with City Gate.
Our ESL program operates completely with volunteer teachers, and volunteers assist our staff with summer camp and afterschool programs. These programs at our church facility are only the beginning of opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others. We have volunteers helping with our City Gate Science Club at Marie Reed Elementary School in Adams Morgan, as well as in programs in NE and SE DC.
Our volunteers span all ages from high school and college students to retired individuals who find that helping a new international friend learn English, or helping a child complete her homework is at once significant and rewarding. Occasional special events or field trips often draw many AU or other college students who can't do regularly scheduled volunteer work.
